Humankind has been searching for, dreaming about, and creating magical potions for staving off the ageing process for centuries. One such cure for ageing is the Fountain of Youth, a legendary spring that promises youthful rejuvenation for all who drink from its waters. Men and women have been searching for this magical spring since the fifth century BC, when Herodotus, the Greek historian, wrote of its curative properties. However, considering this elusive spring has yet to be found, there a number of tried-and-true ways to delay the physical and mental signs of ageing in the here and now.
Stress less: Stress plays a critical role in the ageing process, causing physical changes in the body that accelerate ageing. To combat this, practise meditation one or twice daily for 10 minutes. Choose a mantra - a word or phrase - as you sit in a quiet place with your eyes closed. Relax your muscles and breathe deeply. Repeat your mantra on each exhale. After 10 minutes, and still keeping your eyes closed, slowly allow your everyday thoughts to come back to the present.
Organic natural skin care: Nourishingyour skin, protecting it from exposure to free radicals, and stimulating collagen growth are key components to slowing the ageing process. Always choose organic where possible, looking for products that contain nourishing, protective ingredients such as pomegranate oil, rose hydrosol, vitamins A and C, hyaluronic acid, squalene and sea buckthorn oil.
Eat good fats and superfoods: Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish, nuts and seeds, help prevent the visible signs of ageing by reducing the inflammatory process, keeping your skin healthy and radiant. Superfoods - pomegranates, tomatoes, broccoli, ginger, berries, green leafy vegetables, and tea - are all rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals necessary to keep your body happy, healthy, and young.
Physical activity: Regular exercise is essential to reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes, maintain a healthy weight, strengthen bones and muscles, improve metal health and mood, and, very importantly, to increase your chances of living longer.
