For our fifth annual awards, we smoothed, slathered and sniffed our way through dozens of products to come up with our 21 natural and eco-friendly winners. Helene Larson reports.

1. Cleanser

What we liked: The jojoba oil and shea butter in this gentle formula nourish skin, while the bioflavonoids deliver a noticeably brighter complexion with regular use. “It’s creamy without being greasy. My skin felt softer after using it for two weeks.” Helene Larson, Beauty Editor

What we liked: With organic rose, noni, aloe and hibiscus, this balancing formula provides antioxidant protection and supports skin’s natural collagen production.

3. Day cream

What we liked: This luxurious blend is jam-packed with nutrients to protect skin, plump out tiny wrinkles, and give you a healthy glow.

4. Serum

WINNER One Skin System Vital Night Regenerate (

What we liked: Rich in healing botanicals like arnica and jasmine, and infused with macadamia, baobab and Kakadu plum oils, this pampers skin while you sleep. “It sank into my skin quickly, and the next day my skin seemed more resilient.” Alex Dedich, National Sales Manager

5. Night cream

WINNER A'kin Lavender & Rose Repairing Antioxidant Night Crème (

What we liked: This easily absorbed formula is chock-full of anti-ageing ingredients like vitamins A, C, and E, and omega-3, -6 and -9 EFAs to boost skin hydration.

6. Sunscreen

WINNER Soléo Organics All Natural Sunscreen (

What we liked: This has no chemical UV absorbers or titanium dioxide, plus it’s biodegradable and completely environmentally friendly. “My daughter has sensitive skin, but I found she could wear this one.” Jennifer Harris, Editorial Assistant

7. Exfoliant

WINNER Joi Pure Refining Micro-Exfoliant (

What we liked: Jojoba microspheres, pure white clay and German chamomile combine to refine skin texture, prevent breakouts, and revitalise the complexion.

8. Eye serum

WINNER Miessence Firming Eye & Neck Serum (

What we liked: This deeply penetrating formula, based on organic rosehip, avocado, and olive leaf, had a definite toning effect on delicate eye area and neck skin. “I have sensitive eyes and spend a lot of time staring at a computer screen, so I was pleased to find that my eyes stayed tear-free!” Caroline Milne, Studio Manager

9. Multitasker

WINNER Vegesorb Moisturiser (

What we liked: With almond and apricot oils, long used for their nutritive properties, this makes a great moisturiser, shaving cream, cleanser, or make-up remover.

10. Shower gel

WINNER Weleda Wild Rose Creamy Body Wash (

What we liked: Bliss out with the luscious fragrance, while the organic rosehip seed and Rosa damascene oils cleanse and smooth skin. “This smelled amazing. My skin felt really soft and dewy afterwards, too.” Anita Martins, Designer

WINNER Burt’s Bees Cranberry & Pomegranate Body Butter (

What we liked: Antioxidant-rich cranberry seed and pomegranate oils combine with hydrating cocoa and jojoba butters, to leave your skin feeling seriously smooth.

12. Body scrub

WINNER Eminence Organics Apricot Sugar Scrub (

What we liked: The healing properties of apricot are harnessed with raw sugar cane granules to hydrate and polish, leaving skin velvety and smelling fruitilicious!

13. Deodorant

WINNER Fresca Natural Wild Lavender Aluminium-free Deodorant (

What we liked: With the antibacterial and deodorising properties of lavender, this dried without feeling sticky and kept us smelling sweet. “I’m impressed – I used it during my yoga class but all I could smell was lavender!” Ana Heraud, Art Director

What we liked: Cupuacu butter, wild orchid and blue algae extract all replenish, revitalise and add moisture, creating lustrous locks.15. Hair treatment

What we liked: Contains aloe vera, calendula and chamomile to detangle hair and reduce static, while the hydrolysed wheat protein and sesame strengthen the hair shaft. “My hair is quite dry, but the ends felt much softer and healthier after using this.” Lamya Sadi, Production Manage

16. Foundation

What we liked: An all-in-one formula that provides sheer or full coverage, plus anti-oxidants and organic ingredients to feed your skin. “This has a lovely, creamy finish, and I really like the cute compact.” Pamela Allardice, Editor

17. Mascara

WINNER Morgan Annie Mineral Mascara (

What we liked: As well as giving a nice hit of deep colour, this all-natural mineral mascara contains castor seed and jojoba oils to condition and protect lashes.

18. Lipstick

WINNER Adorn Mineral Cosmetics Perfect Pout Mineral Lipstick, in Rustic Mocha (

What we liked: The nude shade is flatters all skin tones, and the certified organic jojoba seed oil, shea butter and orange peel oil condition and protect lips.

19. Lipgloss

WINNER La Glam Minerals Mineral Lip Gloss, in Tequila Sunrise (

What we liked: Plumps lips with super-hydrating castor seed oil, and provides a glossy sweep of colour without being too overwhelming. “I wore this gloss to a party and got compliments all night!” Ellie Cavanagh, Advertising Production Coordinator

20. Blush

WINNER Ere Perez Natural Carrot Cheek & Lip Balm, in Harmless (

What we liked: We loved the convenience of this two-in-one pop-in-your-pocket product, giving cheeks a pop of pink as well as adding a colour hit to lips.

21. Eyeliner

WINNER Livinia Mineral Eyeliner, in Blue Grey (

What we liked: It glides on softly and stays put with no smudges; enriched with jojoba oil and natural vitamin E, it is gentle on the delicate eye area.
